“Good Morning Angie, I don’t have any muffins for you today. They only had the healthy ones and that’s not my jam. How are you this morning?” Issy leaned against Angie’s desk.

“Oh Isadora, it’s lovely to see you, and my figure thanks you for not bringing muffins. It’s good, the preparations for the gala are picking up. I met your friend Gina the other day. She’s lovely. Quite the firecracker.”

“You should see her when she’s mad, half the words coming out of her are Italian and she gets these crazy eyes…” Issy trailed off. “I’m just kidding. She is the picture of professionalism- always. I’m glad Dr. Walker hired her. Shall I head back to his office?” She asked, pushing off the desk to head in that direction.

“Actually, no…”

Issy froze. “No?”

Angie was scanning her desk.

“Here it is. Garrett is swamped with the end of month paperwork, so here is the map of the zoo, and the two techs you will be meeting with. And…” Angie pulled an envelope out from under her desk mat. “I believe this will be the thumb drive for the pictures. Do you want me to call down Frank? He’ll be your expert for the capybaras.”

Nodding, Issy thanked Angie and then sat down to wait for Frank.

First Garrett texts her, and now he is avoiding her. Maybe Amanda is back home now?

“Um… Ms. Jones?” A deep baritone voice broke through Issy’s thoughts. Focusing, she saw a pair of steel-toe work boots beneath khaki work pants, following up the legs was a slight beer belly on an older gentleman. He was twisting his hat in his hands, “You’re here to learn about the cappy’s?” he asked.

“Oh yes! Sorry, you must be Frank. I’m Issy.” She reached out to shake the big man’s hand. “I’m sorry, you called them cappy’s?” His hand clasped hers, full of warmth and calluses.

“Yeah just because I’m too lazy to say the whole word. Goodbye Ms. Angie.” Frank led Issy out of the office, she hunkered into her coat and followed him through the park.

“You would think I’d know where we were going by this point, with the amount of visits I’ve had to the zoo.”

“Well none of the enclosures have moved, but I’m sure it’s a lot to absorb when you’re on a mission.” Frank countered. For a big man, he was very quick on his feet. Issy had to do a skip-walk to keep up, but the movement was helping her stay warm.

“Why are you writing about the capybaras?” Frank asked.

“Truthfully? I had a guinea pig when I was little, and I know it was a descendent of the capybara. That’s it.” She admitted with a grin.

“Ok then…. Do you know anything else? What exactly do you need to know?”

“I need to know about their love lives.” She said.

Frank flushed at the mention of love lives. He gave off that down-home vibe, one where you do not talk about sex or air each other’s dirty laundry. Poor guy. He is going
